Everything is Scary

This article/writing/textual composition/whatever you want to call it won't have an introductory paragraph, because I'm particularly bad at writing those in a way that does sound forced, so let's get straight to the point:

I have noticed that in recent years, it has become extremely common for people, especially teenagers and those in their early 20s, to label every slightly unusual video/image/game/thing they encounter as "scary", "disturbing", "unsettling", etc.

Example #1 - which is what prompted me to write this

A couple of months ago, I was bored and decided to browse the /r/RBI and /r/InternetMysteries subreddits, and I saw at least five different threads describing some "disturbing" TikTok live streams featuring women sleeping on matresses along with outrageous theories not based in any evidence about how those women are apparently dead or whatever. The threads had hundreds of comments each, with people jumping to conclusions. I decided to look into those video myself, and to my surprisie, there was nothing too unusual about them. Just a live video feed from a camera mounted on a tripod recording a sleeping (likely south-Asian) woman, with links to seemingly random AliExpress listings for knock-off Adidas sweatpants (LMAO) superimposed. I think that based on that, it would be pretty reasonable to assume that this is just a bunch of Indians trying to advertise their AliExpress merchandise, but of course the Reddit users have to instead come up with the most insane explanation there is.

Example #2 - ElsaGate

Example #3 - Sad Satan

Example #4 - "Strange" software

Example #5 - "Strange" Web sites

Example #6 - Jonathan Galindo and "Dolphin Man"

Example #7 - JessiCur
